Los Angeles-based Iranian artist, Reihan uncovers the paradoxes between structure and spontaneity, tradition and innovation, individuality and community in Paradox, a new series of oil and acrylic paintings, curated by JosephBrandon.
Influenced by her rich cultural roots, her background in architecture, and her boundless imagination, these compositions dance between structured design and fluidity of the spirit. Blending abstraction and representation, Reihan’s color story harkens to the tricolor flag of Iran and imagines what lives “Before Me and Above Me,” poetically assumes the point of view of the sun, and builds a new world amidst life’s horrors – hunger, loss, and suffering.
Her artwork is concerned with the experiences of girls, women, and children uplifting overlooked stories with an air of child-like wonder.
The artist achieves a textured surface using layers and layers of paint which reveal windows into new worlds. Dynamic environments of color and energy are created using thick confident brush strokes and through the spontaneity of spirit and paint, Reihan reveals the Paradox of life.
